Books:

I had the fortune of meeting Ben McConnell last summer when we brought him in to speak about Creating Customer Evangelists to the Twin Cities chapter of Fast Company's Readers' Network.

Here are the tenants of
CreatingCustomer Evangelists:

  1. Customer plus-delta: Continuously gather customer feedback.
  2. Napsterize knowledge: Make it a point to share knowledge freely.
  3. Build the buzz: Expertly build word-of-mouth networks.
  4. Create community: Encourage communities of customers to meet and share.
  5. Make bite-size chunks: Devise specialized, smaller offerings to get customers to bite.
  6. Create a cause: Focus on making the world, or your industry, better.

The book goes into much greater detail and actual experiences and success stories for each and overall CCE success stories. Well researched and worth the read.

Turning to One AnotherTurning To One Another: Simple Conversations To Restore Hope To The Future by Margaret J. Wheatley
Want to start having real conversations with people?- get this book!
Here are some questions, conversation starters, and beliefs that Wheatley offers that resonated deeply with me and I hope you as well:

"Are you becoming someone you respect?"
"Do you feel a vocation to be fully human?"
"The cure for dispair is not hope. It's discovering (and conversing about) what we want to do about something we care about."

Six Thinking Hats:by Edward De Bono; 173pages - I read a chapter per workout on the stairmaster -seemed to work out just fine.

De Bono resets the way meetings function to communicate information, brainstorm and create new ideas. It has been nearly 15 years since it was first published. The revised edition brings in real world examples of this work with phenomenal success. Using this method he shows how what would have been a frustrating four hour meeting can be reduced to 45 minutes with impact and intention.

The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom
by Don Miguel Ruiz; 138pages
A quick read in the bathroom. Though the Four Agreements seem simple; They are very well crafted and build upon each other. It is deceptive how powerful the combination becomes.

1) Be Impeccable With Your Word
2) Don't Take Anything Personally
3) Don't Make Assumptions
4) Always Do Your Best

Leading The Revolution cover imageLeading the Revolution
By Gary Hamel
Incredible!   By far the leader of the pack in management consulting.  He is tired of organizations which evolve, create the double stuff oreo cookie, "rightsize" and generally burn up old wealth.  He believes we must create NEW WEALTH.  This is done through REVOLUTIONARY thinking.  This is a must read for all business executives, entrepreneurs, change agents and business students.

The Courage To Be RichThe Courage to Be Rich
By Suze Orman
"
People first, then money"- an incredibly powerful mantra. What is important in our lives? How many people have place "Things" above these two items (Give you a clue its over 90%) Our culture breaths it. Her book is about clearing away the "CLUTTER" (#1 cause for financial difficulty in America) in our lives and "clearing the way" for money to flow into your life. Tips on 401(k)s, Roth IRAs, marriage, bank accounts, prenuptuals, deaths, homes, and happiness. I found her on PBS during one of their pledge periods and was simply enthralled. Concepts like Why do we always choose some variety of 30yr mortgage? How do Roth IRAs work? Clearing away Clutter - three easy steps.
